FAQs

1.      What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is from 4pm and check-out by 11am. Guests can book to use the spa from 2pm on day of arrival subject to availability.

2.      What time is breakfast served?

Breakfast is served from 7am-10am Monday to Friday and 8am-10am on weekends.

3.      Do you serve lunch?

We serve lunch every day in the restaurant from 12pm-2pm (2.30pm on Sundays) and booking is recommended. We also serve lunch in the spa brasserie from 12pm-3pm Tuesday to Saturday (snack food available Sundays & Mondays).

4.      Is afternoon tea available?

We serve afternoon tea in the Hall Monday to Saturday between 2pm – 4pm by prior reservation only. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate walk-ins as pastries are baked daily to order.

5.      What time is dinner served?

We serve evening meals in the restaurant and bar from 6pm-9pm.

6.      What time are children permitted in the restaurant?

Children over 7 are welcome in the restaurant at any time. Children under 7 are welcome up until 7.30pm or anytime when in a private dining room. We offer a children’s menu or smaller portions of our normal a la carte dishes.

7.      Is there a dress code for the restaurant?

For evening dinner service we kindly ask all diners to wear smart/casual attire. No sportswear thank you.

8.      Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

Our seasonal menus include dishes that are vegetarian and vegan. If you have a specific dietary requirement or allergy please notify us in advance and we will do all we can to accommodate these requirements.

9.      Do you have private dining rooms?

Yes, we have a number of private dining rooms available to book for 8 or more people at an additional cost. The Drawing room can accommodate up to 30 guests, the Stable Lounge up to 50 and the Coach House Ballroom up to 120.

10.      Do you have family bedrooms?

We have 3 family rooms that have a double bed and a single bed and we have 3 suites that have a double bed and a sofa bed. We can also accommodate cots in the majority of our rooms and have a limited number on-site available for use. Our Mews bedrooms are in pairs with a common/private lobby so can be used for family accommodation when a double room and a twin room are required.

11.  Are you dog-friendly?

We are a very dog-friendly hotel. We welcome guests with up to 2 dogs in our Mews rooms and Hideaway apartment. We also permit one medium/small dog in some of our Main Hall, Couch House and Spa rooms. Dogs are also welcome on a lead in the main lounge, bar and brasserie. The gardens and surrounding countryside provide many options for exercising. We do not charge for dogs staying with us.

12.  Do you have easy-access bedrooms?

We have a total of 9 ground floor bedrooms and 2 of these are designed to be wheel-chair friendly. We have a number of rooms with walk-in showers.

13.  Is the spa available for all guests to use?

Use of the spa is available to residents but there is a charge for spa use (£15pp per day) unless you are on a package that includes spa use. Spa use must also be booked in advance (2 hour sessions) so we can control the number of people using the facility at any one time to maintain a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere.

14.  Can children use the spa?

Children under 16 are welcome to use the swimming pool under supervision between 8am-9am (8am-10am on weekends) and 4pm-5.30pm. Children must always be accompanied by a swimming adult and children are not permitted to use the outdoor hydrotherapy spa or heat cabins for health & safety reasons.

15.  Do you have bicycles for guests to use?

We have 2 electric bicycles that area available for guests to hire for ½ or full days. Please ask at reception for details.

16.  Do you hire classic cars?

We have some classic cars available for residents to hire between May & September. Hire is subject to terms and conditions available upon request.

17.  Do you accommodate weddings at Headlam?

We can accommodate smaller wedding lunches/dinners of up to 50 guests without dancing Monday-Thursday throughout the year. We now only accommodate larger wedding receptions for over 50 people and with evening parties on an exclusive-use basis when the wedding party hires the entire property (excluding the spa & golf). Please conatct us for details.

18.  Is the golf course open to all?

Our 9 hole course is open to members, residents and for general green fees. Tee-times need to be booked in advance via the Pro Shop (01325) 732113 or online. Please note that the course has dress and etiquette rules in place. We have a driving range open daylight hours and a resident PGA Professional available for tuition.

19.  Do you have a tennis court?

We have a hard surface tennis court that is available for residents and spa members to book via spa reception. We have some equipment available to borrow.

20.  How do I get to Headlam?

Headlam is a hamlet located mid-way between Darlington and Barnard Castle, approximately 1 ½ miles north of Gainford. The postcode for directions is DL2 3HA but please note that is will take you to the post box on a dead-end road! Once you come into Headlam you will clearly see Headlam Hall from the road. We also advise visitors to arrive into Headlam via the road from the south as the back lane to the north of the village is very narrow with blind bends.

21.  Is Headlam near a train station?

The nearest train station is Darlington which is approximately 9 miles away. Darlington is on the main East Coast line.

22. Do you offer free wifi?

Yes, we have free wifi throughout the hotel with 100MB download speed.
