Guests staying at Headlam for a summer break can keep themselves amused on site with the extensive activities and facilities on offer. These include spa, golf, tennis, croquet, e-bike hire, classic car hire and local walks. There is also the option to relax on the terrace or on one of the garden deck chairs with a good book! For those wanting to explore the local area there are some great summer season suggestions.
Whether you are hiring one of our classic cars or heading out in your own vehicle there are some lovely local scenic drives in Teesdale, Weardale and Arkengarthdale. We can provide a picnic should you wish as well as suggested routes. A drive up to our other spot, the Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk for a relaxing lunch is another great option.
Raby Castle is just a 10 minute drive from Headlam and this fabulous medieval castle has recently been enhanced as a fantastic visitor attraction including the deer park which offers lovely walks. They host events throughout the summer including classic car shows, open air theatre, open air cinema and deer park safari.
Other local attractions that lend themselves to the summer season include Beamish Open Air Museum which is around a 40 minute drive to the north. You really will feel like you have stepped back in time as even the staff are in period costume! Auckland Palace is about a 20 minute drive and its main feature in the summer months must be the wonderful gardens which includes the Paradise Garden, Walled Garden and Faith Garden.
After a great day out you will be ready to return to Headlam for a relaxing drink on the terrace or in the Library Bar before a delicious dinner showcasing the home-grown produce from our kitchen garden. What more could you want!
