As a historic Jacobean country house, Headlam Hall provides the perfect setting for Christmas. Nestled in the picturesque hamlet of Headlam, the Hall combines tranquil surroundings with the warmth of traditional lounges, flickering candles, open fires, and a renowned reputation for excellent food, drink, and hospitality. The friendly, relaxed atmosphere of this family-owned and run hotel makes it an ideal destination for the festive season.
December Festivities
December is a wonderful time to visit Headlam Hall, when the hotel is beautifully decorated with traditional Christmas trees and seasonal touches. Our festive lunches are served Monday to Saturday in the restaurant, with private dining rooms available for groups of eight or more.
You can also enjoy our traditional afternoon tea served in the lounge. For something extra special, join us on 11th or 18th December for afternoon tea in the stylish Coach House, accompanied by carol singing from a local choir — the perfect way to embrace the Christmas spirit.
Party Nights and New Year Celebrations
Our popular ‘Snow-Ball’ party nights are the perfect way to celebrate with friends or colleagues. Dress up and enjoy a delicious meal followed by dancing to our in-house Christmas disco. Party nights are available to book on the 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th of December.
The season culminates with our spectacular New Year’s Eve Ball, a black-tie event featuring a Champagne reception, a fabulous six-course dinner, and live entertainment including a table magician, swing singer, and pop band. The evening concludes with fireworks to welcome in 2026. Tables are available in the Main Hall or the Coach House, where the dancing continues into the night.
Seasonal Stays
If you’re looking for a relaxing pre-Christmas escape, our Christmas Advent Break offers great value and a festive atmosphere. This special dinner, bed and breakfast rate includes spa access and a warm welcome with mince pies and mulled wine by the fire on arrival.
Alternatively, extend your stay with our seasonal Winter Escape offer, available for two or three nights, and make the most of this magical time of year.

There’s plenty to enjoy in the surrounding area, with festive events at nearby Raby Castle and Christmas markets at The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, taking place from 12th to 14th December.
