As a historic Jacobean country house, Headlam Hall lends itself particularly well to Christmas; the tranquil setting in the picturesque hamlet of Headlam, the comfortable and traditional lounges with flickering candles and open fires, the great reputation for good food and drink and the friendly and relaxed ambiance of a family owned and run hotel.
There are many reasons to visit Headlam in December which is when the decorations and real Christmas trees are in place along with seasonal menus. Our festive lunches are served Monday to Saturday in the restaurant with private dining rooms available for parties of 8 or more. There is also the popular option of a traditional afternoon tea served in the lounge plus this year we have two dates – 11th & 18th December – when we are combining an afternoon tea in the stylish Coach House with carol signing by a local choir to really give it an extra ‘Christmassy’ atmosphere.
Our ‘Snow-Ball’ party nights offer the chance to get dressed up and enjoy a delicious meal with friends and/or work colleagues followed by dancing to our in-house Christmas disco. These are available to book on 5th, 6th, 12th & 13th December. Then there is the grand finale of the season which is our spectacular New Year’s Eve Ball. This special black tie event includes a Champagne reception, a fabulous six-course dinner, live entertainment in the form of a table magician, swing singer and pop band with fireworks to welcome in 2026. Tables can be booked in either the Main Hall or in the Coach House where the dancing takes place later on.
If you are looking for a nice, relaxing pre-Christmas getaway offering great value and the opportunity to get into the swing of the season then check out our Christmas Advent Stay. This is a special dinner, bed & breakfast rate with spa use and mince pies & mulled wine by the fire on arrival. You can also enjoy a two or three night break on our Winter Escape package.
In the local area there is plenty going on with a number of festive events taking place at the nearby Raby Castle and Christmas markets at Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle from 12th-14th December.
