The Menus

The use of fresh and locally sourced produce including fruits, herbs and vegetables from our own gardens is at the core of our food philosophy.

The team of dedicated chefs produce tasty and individual dishes that reflect the best of modern British and Continental cuisine. Awards include 2 AA rosettes, Taste Durham Local Champion, Taste Durham Highest Quality Assured and an Enjoy England Breakfast Award.

Our menu changes on a regular basis due to seasonal and local availability of produce/ingredients. For an exact copy of our current menu please contact the hotel and we will send a copy of the current menu by email. This sample menu below is to give you an idea of style and prices of dishes.

Pre-starter of chef's homemade soup - complimentary

Smoked salmon mousse, textures of beetroot and a micro herb salad - £8.50

Crisp lamb belly, minted pea puree, water cress and redcurrant jus - £8.00

Asparagus, peach, feta cheese and pine nut salad with balsamic dressing - £8.00

Crab and avocado salad, tomato concasse, rocket and crustacean oil - £9.00

Carpaccio of beef fillet, red pepper, spring onion and radish salad with a sesame oil dressing - £9.00

Main Courses

Herb crusted rack of lamb, minted crushed potatoes, broad beans, silver skin onions and a rosemary jus - £23.00 (£3 supplement on DBB rates)

Spiced monkfish tail, Bombay potatoes, spinach and peas with saffron cream - £21.00

Slow braised ox cheek, creamy mashed potato, glazed carrots, crispy onions and a peppercorn sauce - £19.00

Pan-roast breast of chicken stuffed with mushroom duxelle, pomme anna potatoes, charred leek, sauteed wild mushrooms and a tarragon jus - £19.00

Pan-fried ribeye of Simpson's beef, beef fat chips, confit tomato, flap cap mushroom, water cress with thmye and shallot jus - £23.00 (£3 supplement on DBB rates)


Dark chocolate tart with white chocolate ice cream and raspberries - £7.00

Mango and passion fruit cheescake with coconut ice cream and coconut tuille - £7.50

Sticky toffee pudding with toasted hazelnuts, sticky toffee sauce, apple puree and vanilla ice cream - £7.50

Lunch Menu - Monday to Saturday

Lunch is served from 12pm until 2pm. Booking recommended but not always essential. The seasonal menu changes daily with a choice of 4 for each course.

Monday to Friday: 2 courses £19.50, 3 courses £24.50, Tea/coffee £2.00

Wild mushroom and leek strudel with a light cheddar cheese sauce

Please go to our online booking pages where the best rates can be found. Online reservations can be made for up to 6 rooms at a time and for a maximum of 6 months ahead.
