The late spring early summer season is a fabulous time for a visit to Headlam. The longer days mean evening drinks on the terrace before (and after) dinner, the aroma of freshly cut grass in the gardens and the wonderful new greenery on the trees and hedges surrounding this rural, heritage property.
The walled gardens extend to four acres and include large lawns, a canal, stream, hedges walkways and the impressive kitchen garden. This provides freshly grown ingredients for the chefs to use on the menus. On the active side the gardens also offer our recently refurbished tennis court, croquet lawn (who knows the rules?!) and the outdoor exercise zone.
We have also just opened our new spa terrace area which includes a larger outdoor hydrotherapy spa and a stunning glazed lounger area. This has an electric retracting roof and opening glass sides for warmer days to catch a few rays! It also means that when the weather turns cold or wet it can be fully closed so you can still relax on your lounger and enjoy the beautiful countryside views. The spa facilities also include our indoor pool, thermal zone with sauna and steam and an impressive gym and weights studio for those looking to burn off the calories. The spa treatment rooms and expert team of therapists offer fabulous treatments including massages, facials and bespoke rituals.
This is also the perfect season to enjoy the scenic and challenging 9 hole golf course which also boasts a covered driving range and resident PGA golf professional for tuition. Our collection of classic cars emerge from their winter hibernation and are available for residents to hire for a half or full day to explore the countryside of the northern dales. We also have e-bikes for hire and guided fly-fishing can be arranged on the nearby river Tees.
If you would like to head out and explore some local attractions then the impressive Raby Castle is just a 10 minute drive away. Take a walk around the deer park, walled gardens or a tour of the medieval castle itself. The local market town of Barnard Castle is also a great day out to discover the independent shops, antique stores and the excellent Bowes Museum which is currently hosting a Vivienne Westwood exhibition.
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself booked for a memorable short break to Headlam Hall in the tranquil countryside of the Durham dales.
