Pets Prefer British Holidays!

Pets prefer British Holidays... especially in a dog friendly hotel like Headlam!
With Britain having now been out of the EU for a few years – and with the new government showing no signs of re-joining - it’s official: pets prefer British holidays! Here are five great reasons why you should holiday with your dog in Britain this year at a dog-friendly hotel in the Durham Dales…
Cost – it can be ferocious!
Headlam Hall’s managing director and owner, Thomas Robinson, found out to his cost just how much it is to take your dog on holiday to Europe when he recently made a trip with his Jack Russell, Mabel (pictured) and Labrador, Darcy to Austria. With pre-trip vets bills, Eurotunnel fees and pets’ accommodation fees, a holiday out of Britain can set you back £300 plus (on top of everything else) for the pleasure of taking your dogs!
It’s less hassle
Just like when you travel by yourselves, a holiday or short break is so much easier if you opt to stay in the UK. No airport or ferry terminal delays, none of the onerous admin mentioned above to think about, no worries about other passengers not taking to Fido, and no trouble getting hold of your pooch’s fave food or treats.
Turning down the heat
Whilst we love a hot British summer (frankly, we’re still searching for it this year!), some destinations in Europe are now just too hot for a comfortable stay at the time you want to travel (parts of Spain were over 40 degrees at the beginning of July!). And those temperatures are bad enough for us humans, let alone dogs! Whilst we’re the first to admit that Teesdale just doesn’t get those temperatures, we would also argue that means that you, your family and your four-legged companion will be far more comfortable travelling, sightseeing, dog-walking and playing.
So many places to see and things to do
The UK is full of amazing places to sightsee and things to do – with your best friend in tow! Here in Teesdale, there are so many invigorating walks by the river Tees, and also longer ones through Hamsterley Forest and other areas of the Durham Dales. Or perhaps your dog would prefer a twice daily romp around Headlam village, on the village green itself or in the local fields. Dogs also love the four acres of walled gardens here at Headlam Hall, and a little further afield there’s the pet-friendly Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines awaiting.
It’s amazing value all the way
We’ll put it plainly – dogs go FREE at Headlam Hall! With a great love of dogs ourselves, we’ve gone out of the way to ensure that guests with dogs have a truly pet-friendly welcome here at Headlam, including in our Mews bedrooms with their direct access to the estate, and in a selection of our other bedrooms too. Then there’s The Hideaway, our self-contained apartment which can accommodate up to two dogs and has its own private enclosed garden area. Doggy bliss! And don’t forget, dogs staying at Headlam are given a bowl and treats, we also have a handy outdoor hosing area with towels available on request, and we love to recommend walks locally and further afield during your stay.
Don't forget the owners
Headlam Hall is a dog friendly hotel with spa so after the dogs have enjoyed a walk the owners can book into the spa for some relaxation time.
